Term 2 Make-up Project #1- Farmland
My work consists of more natural settings with minimal added subjects in the frame. This set of work I would title farmland in Delta. The elements and principles that are most obviously occurring in my work would have to be harmony and space. My images are not greatly altered. To create my work I think of an idea, then I go out and shoot an abundance of photos on that topic.Once I have my desired photos I open them in Photoshop to strengthen them, such as altering the lighting balance. I was inspired to take photos of the Delta farmland because we have it near home but it feels farther than it really is. I like to include serene relaxed emotion in my work. My goals for this set were to capture the components that contribute to our farming suburb. This set helped my accomplish this as I captured different compositions of the land. From creating this set of photos I learned the different modes of each farm. This set overall will influence my future works because I now have some experience of how to compose photos surrounding this topic.
Set #2- Culture of Steveston
For this set of photos I decided to capture the culture conveyed at Steveston. This work looks very candid rather than staged. The subject matter consists of things and people you can see while walking around at Steveston. I used a very simple process for these photos. I took the photos then slightly altered parts in Photoshop, such as saturation contrast and exposure. I was inspired to take these photos the way I did because I thought it would capture the mood and culture better than if it they were planned. My goals as an artist for this set was to capture authentic photos to display the sights and surroundings you can experience while at Steveston. I believe I reached my goals with some very good quality photos. From creating this set I learned many things. For example I came to the realization that there are many parts to observe at this riverside community. Overall, I am very happy with the work that came out of this set of photos.
Set #3- Vancouver Views
In this set of photos I decided to capture the views of Spanish banks, a viewpoint off the highway in the west end, and the city skyline near English bay. In order to achieve these photos I went to the home of family friend for the majority of the photos. I was able to gather some pictures of magnificent views including multiple things that make-up our city. I chose to put one photo of my sister and our cousin from out of town enjoying the view. To create these photos I took captured the things that contributed to the beautiful views. I was inspired by the idea that we were going sightseeing in our own city. My goals as an artist were to keep the photos looking natural in order for them to preserve the character they possess. I chose to put people in one of the photos in order to change up the pattern of photos that was developing. This set overall turned out very well considering my limited subject matter. Though my subjects were limited it kept me from getting carried away from the theme.
